Qu Lei Lei is an internationally renowned artist, mainly as a painter and draftsman.

He was born in the Heilongjiang province, China, and grew up during the political and turbulence of the Chinese cultural revolution. He is currently based in London but works between London, Devon and Beijing.
QU Lei Lei is a founding member of the ‚Stars‘ movement, a group of art students who set up the first ever contemporary art movement to appear in China between 1979 and 1983. Their campaign for freedom of expression breaks the stranglehold of the Communist Party orthodoxy and opens the path for freedom of artistic expression in China.
QU Lei Lei first exhibits in China and then at the Venice Biennale, the Beijing Biennale and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
QU Lei Lei’s works are displayed in the Ashmolean Museum in London as well as in Oxford and form part of the permanent collections of the China National Museum. Some of his art works have recently been acquired by the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A).
QU Lei Lei builds bridges between cultures by his extraordinary mastery of ink on paper, be it for his Hands, like painters of the Dutch school or from the Italian renaissance; for his nudes, like modern French painters; and for his Chinese soldiers. All his art works exude intelligence and humanity.

Qu Lei Lei est un artiste de renommée internationale, principalement peintre et dessinateur.
Né dans la province du Heilongjiang, en Chine, il a grandi dans la tourmente de la révolution culturelle de la Chine. QU Lei Lei vit à Londres mais travaille entre Londres, la région du Devon et Pékin.
Il est l’un des fondateurs du Mouvement des étoiles, premier mouvement initié par des étudiants en art contemporain à Pékin de 1979 à 1983. Leur lutte pour défendre la liberté d’expression brise l’étau de l’orthodoxie du Parti communiste et ouvre la voie à la liberté d’expression artistique en Chine.
QU Lei Lei expose en Chine puis à la Biennale de Venise, à la Biennale de Pékin et au Centre Pompidou à Paris. Les expositions personnelles de QU Lei Lei vont du Ashmolean Museum, en passant par Oxford et le China National Museum où certaines de ses œuvres font partie des collections permanentes. Le British Museum et le Victoria and Albert Museum (V & A) viennent d’en acquérir.
QU Lei Lei jette des ponts entre les cultures et les mêle grâce à sa parfaite maîtrise de l’encre sur papier, que ce soit pour ses Mains comme les peintres de l’Ecole hollandaise et ceux de la Renaissance italienne, pour ses Nus comme ceux des peintres français de l’époque moderne, ou pour ses Soldats de l’histoire chinoise. Son œuvre irradie d’intelligence et d’humanité.
