Du Zhenjun

An artist born in 1961 in Shanghai, is a graduate of the Shanghai School of Fine Arts of the University of Shanghai, where he works as a professor between 1986 and 1991. In addition, he obtains a post-graduation diploma in Digital technologies at the Regional School of Fine Arts in Rennes, Brittany.

Since 1992 he features in numerous exhibitions in France, Japan, China, South Africa, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, Brazil and France. Some exhibitions have a particular impact, such as the pioneering interactive installation “Doctor Du’s Lecture on Anatomy” in Beijing; “Too heavy Human Being” at the Paris Autumn Festival; “Human Zoo”, at Le Lieu unique, in Nantes; or „Babel-world / Du Zhenjun“, at ZKM | Center for Art and Media, in Karlsruhe. He also wins the Roland Garros poster contest in 2015.

In his Babel Tower series, he transposes landscapes of a world subject to overpopulation, extensive urbanization and air opacity in large-scale photographs. These landscapes are created through preparatory drawings and by gathering from the Internet tragic or mundane contemporary images, decomposed in countless fragments. DU Zhenjun is renowned for his interactive visual installations which often embed captors in order to seize the encounter between virtual characters and the audience. This results in dynamic works receptive to the actions of the spectators, who are not externals but contribute to the content and enable us to wordlessly reflect on humankind.

His works, multiple and multifaceted, are reflections on humanity, new technologies and the interactions between societies and civilizations. DU Zhenjun offers a new art language to the public and art collectors. His works feature in national and international collections, both private and public.

DU ZHENJUN

Der 1961 in Shanghai geborene Künstler ist Absolvent der Shanghai School of Fine Arts der Universität Shanghai, wo er zwischen 1986 und 1991 als Professor tätig ist. Darüber hinaus erwirbt er ein Postgraduierten-Diplom für digitale Technologien an der Regionalen Schule der Schönen Künste in Rennes (Bretagne).

Seit 1992 nimmt er an zahlreichen Ausstellungen in Frankreich, Japan, China, Südafrika, Deutschland, Ungarn, Belgien, Brasilien und Frankreich teil. Einige Ausstellungen haben eine besondere Wirkung, wie die bahnbrechende interaktive Installation „Doctor Du’s Lecture on Anatomy“ in Peking; „Too heavy Human Being“ auf dem Pariser Herbstfestival; „Human Zoo“, in Le Lieu unique, in Nantes; oder „Babel-world / Du Zhenjun“, im ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie, in Karlsruhe. Außerdem gewinnt er 2015 den Roland-Garros-Plakatwettbewerb.

In seiner Babel-Tower-Serie setzt er Landschaften einer Welt, die von Überbevölkerung, massiver Urbanisierung und Luftverschmutzung geprägt ist, in großformatigen Fotografien um. Diese Landschaften entstehen durch vorbereitende Zeichnungen und durch das Sammeln von tragischen oder alltäglichen zeitgenössischen Bildern aus dem Internet, die in unzählige Fragmente zerlegt werden. DU Zhenjun ist bekannt für seine interaktiven visuellen Installationen, in denen er oft Gefangene einbindet, um die Begegnung zwischen virtuellen Figuren und dem Publikum zu nutzen. So entstehen dynamische Werke, die auf die Handlungen der Betrachter reagieren, die keine Außenstehenden sind, sondern zum Inhalt beitragen und es uns ermöglichen, wortlos über die Menschheit nachzudenken.

Seine Werke sind vielfältig und facettenreich und reflektieren über die Menschheit, die neuen Technologien und die Interaktionen zwischen Gesellschaften und Zivilisationen. DU Zhenjun bietet der Öffentlichkeit und Kunstsammlern eine neue Kunstsprache. Seine Werke befinden sich in nationalen und internationalen Sammlungen, sowohl in privaten als auch in öffentlichen Sammlungen:

Du Zhenjun

Artiste né en 1961 à Shanghai, diplômé de l’Ecole des beaux-arts de L’Université de Shanghai, professeur à la même Ecole (1986-1991), il obtient également un post-diplôme en « Espaces numériques » à l’Ecole des beaux-arts de Rennes.

Depuis 1992 il participe à de nombreuses expositions dans des galeries et espaces publics en France, Japon, Chine, Afrique du Sud, Allemagne, Hongrie, Belgique, Brésil et Maroc. Certaines expositions ont un retentissement particulier, tels que l’installation interactive pionnière «Doctor Du’s Lecture on Anatomy» à l’Université des beaux-arts de Rennes, «Être humain trop lourd» au Festival d’automne à Paris, “Human Zoo” au Lieu unique à Nantes, ou «Babel-world/ Du Zhenjun » au ZKM | Center for Art and Media, à Karlsruhe. Il remporte aussi la commande de l’affiche pour Roland Garros en 2015.

Dans ses travaux sur le thème de la Tour de Babel il transpose dans des photos de grand format des visions du monde où la surpopulation, l’urbanisation intensive et l’opacité de l’air constituent des paysages réalisés à partir de dessins préparatoires et en tirant d’internet des images tragiques ou communes de l’époque actuelle, décomposées en d’innombrables fragments. Du Zhenjun est connu pour ses installations vidéos interactives qui, souvent, intègrent des dispositifs de capteurs pour saisir les mouvements de la rencontre entre des personnages virtuels et les spectateurs: il en résulte des oeuvres dynamiques réceptives aux actions des spectateurs, qui ne sont pas externes mais contribuent à créer le contenu, pour faire réfléchir sans mots à notre humanité.

Ses travaux, multiples et renouvelés, sont le fruit de ses réflexions sur l’humanité, les nouvelles technologies et les interactions entre sociétés et civilisations. DU Zhenjun offre un nouveau langage artistique au public et aux collectionneurs. Ses oeuvres figurent dans des collections nationales et internationales, privées comme publiques.
