Qiu Jie, born in Shanghai, is a Chinese painter and draftsman.

He grows up during the Cultural Revolution and very early learns to draw by copying propaganda images. After completing his studies at the School of Applied Arts in Shanghai, he starts his career as a designer. His first exhibition is hosted by the Xu Hui Culture Palace in Shanghai. At almost thirty, he is selected by the Geneva School of Fine Arts in Switzerland, where he teaches for a few years. He obtains an artist’s studio in Geneva and receives prizes from the City and Canton of Geneva as well as from the Helvetic Confederation. He also is awarded a Simon I. Patino Scholarship at the Cité des Arts in Paris.

QIU Jie exhibits all over the world, both solo and with other artists, notably in Basel with AI Wei Wei. His works are sold by prestigious galleries such as Saatchi in London and auction houses such as Sotheby’s. Public institutions (Cernuschi Museum in Paris), as well as major collectors of international renown, acquire several of his works in Europe and in Asia. With Red Zone Arts he participates in two specific projects: Art Paris in 2014 and Museu do Oriente in 2016.

His Dazibao earn him immediate recognition in Europe as well as in China. He composes them on the basis of texts, calligraphies, traditional Chinese drawings, pop-art style pin-ups, world celebrities, historical figures, and objects of luxury or everyday consumption – but most importantly each Dazibao tells a story.

Er wächst während der Kulturrevolution auf und lernt sehr früh durch das Kopieren von Propagandabildern zu zeichnen. Nach Abschluss seines Studiums an der Schule of Applied Arts in Shanghai beginnt er seine Karriere als Designer. Seine erste Ausstellung findet im Xu Hui Kulturpalast in Shanghai statt. Mit fast dreißig Jahren wird er von der Genfer Kunsthochschule in der Schweiz ausgewählt, wo er einige Jahre lang unterrichtet. Er erhält ein Künstleratelier in Genf und wird von der Stadt und dem Kanton Genf sowie von der Helvetischen Eidgenossenschaft ausgezeichnet. Außerdem erhält er ein Simon I. Patino-Stipendium an der Cité des Arts in Paris.

QIU Jie stellt in der ganzen Welt aus, sowohl allein als auch mit anderen Künstlern, insbesondere in Basel mit dem Künstler AI Wei Wei. Seine Kunstwerke werden von renommierten Galerien wie Saatchi in London und Auktionshäusern wie Sotheby’s verkauft. Öffentliche Institutionen (Cernuschi Museum in Paris) sowie bedeutende Sammler von internationalem Ruf erwerben mehrere seiner Werke in Europa und Asien. Mit Red Zone Arts nimmt er an zwei spezifischen Projekten teil: Art Paris im Jahr 2014 und Museu do Oriente im Jahr 2016.

Seine Dazibao verschaffen ihm sowohl in Europa als auch in China sofortige Anerkennung. Er komponiert sie auf der Grundlage von Texten, Kalligraphien, traditionellen chinesischen Zeichnungen, Pin-ups im Pop-Art-Stil, Weltberühmtheiten, historischen Figuren, Luxus- und Alltagsgegenständen – aber vor allem erzählt jedes Dazibao eine Geschichte.

Qiu Jie, né à Shanghai, est un artiste peintre et dessinateur chinois.

Il grandit pendant la révolution culturelle et apprend très tôt à dessiner en copiant des images de propagande. Il entre à l’école des arts appliqués de Shanghai, puis travaille comme designer. Il fait sa première exposition au palais de la culture de Xu Hui à Shanghai. Alors qu’il a près de trente ans, il est sélectionné par l’Ecole des beaux-arts de Genève en Suisse. Il enseigne quelques années, obtient un atelier d’artiste à Genève et reçoit des prix de la Ville et du Canton de Genève ainsi que de la Confédération Helvétique. Il bénéficie d’une bourse Simon I. Patino, à la Cité des arts de Paris.

QIU Jie expose dans le monde entier tant en solo qu’en groupe, notamment à Bâle avec AI Wei Wei. Ses œuvres sont vendues par de prestigieuses galeries comme Saatchi à Londres et des maisons de ventes aux enchères telles que Sotheby’s. Des institutions publiques (collection du musée Cernuschi de la ville de Paris) acquièrent plusieurs de ses œuvres en Europe et en Asie, ainsi que de grands collectionneurs de renommée internationale. Avec Red Zone Arts il participe à deux projets particuliers : Art Paris 2014 et Museu do Oriente 2016.

Ses Dazibao lui valent une immédiate reconnaissance tant en Europe qu’en Chine. Il les compose à partir de textes, calligraphie, dessins traditionnels chinois, pin-up de style pop’art, célébrités du monde et de l’histoire et objets de luxe ou de consommation courante, mais surtout chaque Dazibao raconte une histoire.
