Leng Hong, born in Shanghai in 1955, is a Chinese artist.

He studied Fine Arts at the Shanghai Academy of Theater in the 1970s, first a painter and a teacher, he went to France in the 1980s, became interested in western painting and found another style. He permeates painting schools of the 20th and previous Western schools, including that of the Italian Renaissance which conquered him. Leng Hong is still a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts at Shanghai University. He adds, mischievously, that he was even once a painter-worker, happy with his effect.
Leng Hong has developed a style that transcends time and place. The artist adds the serenity so well transmitted by classical Chinese art. The contours of buildings, or objects, but also characters, seem to be cut through the impasto of various layers of paint, can be seen as blurred drawings, voluntarily represented from different angles, according to the same techniques used by Picasso in his cubist portraits. For his oils, Leng Hong mixes techniques and adds a marble powder that lights up his colors, sometimes reddish brown, sometimes blue green and often very large formats. In his watercolors, Leng Hong takes up a technique dating back to the 5th century, monochrome washes, in which the gradations of intensity of the ink allow to obtain a multiplicity of effects, while purifying and simplifying the color.

Leng Hong exhibits all over the world, both solo and in groups, especially in Canada, where he has lived for the past 20 years. (And there, he also paints the Saint-Laurent river which flows under his window and invades with mist his „villages of another time“ when it comes to watercolors.) At the Museum of Fine Arts in Bordeaux, at the Museum of Pau, at the Château d’Issan, Chateau Haut-Bailly, in Bordeaux in France, at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, at the Shanghai Art Museum, his exhibitions follow one another and are not alike. His work has been shown on televisions, broadcast in Europe and on Asian television. His artworks are collected by the Zhenjiang Museum, the Yangzhou Museum, the Suzhou museum; at the Liu Haisu Art Museum in Shanghai, the Changzhou Museum, the Chinese Art Academy in Shanghai, etc. His artworks are also copied for classic book illustrations. Leng Hong belongs to portfolio of auctions such as Sotheby’s in Taipei, Artcurial in Shanghai. Again in 2019 after 20 years, Leng Hong is continuing having prestigious exhibitions in China.

Leng Hong works and lives between Canada and China … and therefore sometimes in Europe.

Il étudie aux Beaux-arts de l’Académie de théâtre de Shanghai dans les années 70, d’abord peintre et professeur, il part en France, dans les années 80, s’intéresse à la peinture occidentale et trouve un autre style. Il s’imprègne des écoles de peinture du 20ème et des écoles occidentales antérieures, dont celle de la Renaissance italienne qui le conquiert. Leng Hong est toujours professeur au Collège des Beaux-arts de l’Université de Shanghai. Il ajoute, malicieux, qu’il a même été autrefois peintre-ouvrier, content de son effet.
Leng Hong a développé un style qui transcende le temps et le lieu. L’artiste y ajoute la sérénité si bien transmise par l’art chinois classique. Les contours des bâtiments, ou des objets, mais aussi des personnages, semblent être coupés à travers l’empâtement de diverses couches de peinture, peuvent être vus comme des dessins floutés, volontairement représentés sous différents angles, selon les mêmes techniques utilisées par Picasso dans ses portraits cubistes. Pour ses huiles, Leng Hong mixte les techniques et ajoute une poudre de marbre qui illumine ses couleurs tantôt de rouge brun, tantôt de bleu vert et souvent de très grands formats. Dans ses aquarelles, Leng Hong reprend à son compte une technique remontant au 5ème siècle, de lavis monochromes, dans lesquels les gradations d’intensité de l’encre permettent d’obtenir une multiplicité d’effets, tout en purifiant et simplifiant la couleur.

Leng Hong expose dans le monde entier tant en solo qu’en groupe, notamment au Canada où il vit depuis une vingtaine d’années. ( Et là, il peint aussi le fleuve Saint-Laurent qui coule sous sa fenêtre et envahit de brumes ses «villages d’une autre époque» lorsqu’il s’agit d’aquarelles.) Au Musée des Beaux-arts de Bordeaux, au Musée de Pau, au Château d’Issan, en France,au Musée national d’art de Chine à Pékin, au Musée d’art de Shanghai, ses expositions se suivent et ne se ressemblent pas. Ses œuvres sont partie des collections du Musée de Hangzhou, Musée de Suzhou, Musée d’art Liu Haisu, à Shanghai . ses œuvres illustrent des premières de couverture de livres édités par des grandes maisons et ont été présentées à plusieurs reprises lors d’émissions tv francophones et chinoises. Leng Hong apparait régulièrement dans les portfolios de maisons d’enchères telles que Sotheby à Taipei, Arcurial à Shanghai. Encore en 2019 et ce depuis 20 ans, Leng Hong voit ses œuvres figurant dans les expositions prestigieuses en Chine.

Leng Hong travaille et habite entre le Canada et la Chine…et donc parfois en Europe.
